Happy New Year Hunnie!
I’m excited about all the untapped opportunities this year will present! Cheers to an amazing year ahead!
Those close to me know that, I am a very goal and objective-oriented person. I love lists and daily planners I literally get panicky when I don’t have a game plan for something! I hope I’m not alone out here. LOL!
I believe that if you need to get somewhere, you need to plan your route and have alternatives. However, I can’t claim to be perfect in this process! Through it all, I have learned to seek the face of the Lord so that my plans and his are aligned!
“A person may have many ideas concerning God’s plan for their life, but only the designs of God’s purpose will succeed in the end- Proverbs 19:21 The Passions Translation”
And I do not get disappointed when things don’t go my way or try to force my plan to come to fruition. Because-
“In all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose- Romans 8:28 NIV”
So, if for instance I planned to be a CEO at age 25 and it doesn’t happen, I could get frustrated, but through it all, I will trust God’s process because he’s seen the end of the movie and I haven’t!
Regardless, I do believe that you need to be intentional as you go through life. Here are the 3 steps I follow to help me set achievable goals:
1. Brainstorm

On a piece of paper write down all the things you want to achieve in the next decade (God willing). Brainstorm your ideas on a piece of paper, it doesn’t have to be pretty! And it doesn’t have to be complete, you can keep adding to it!
I recommend you write your goals based on your values! It’ll help you focus on what you’re passionate about instead of focusing on what’s in trend.
Your values are qualities which are meaningful to you, that motivate you to perform!
For instance, a few of my values are: God, Wellness, and Learning. So, my goals for these may look like:
GOD:
- Read the Bible More
- Attend a Bible Study
- Teach Youth Church
WELLNESS:
- Eat Healthy
- Exercise More
LEARNING:
- Read 20 Books
- Listen to more Podcasts

2. Categorize

By now, you are likely looking at your list and probably getting overwhelmed! But not to worry!
In this next step you’ll be organizing your goals from Step #1 into the following categories-
- Short Term Goals (12 Months or Less)
- Medium Term Goals (2-5 years)
- Long Term Goals (>5 Years)
Congratulations Honey! Now you have a 10-year, 5-year, and 1-year plan!
3. Your 2022 Goals
The goals you have as your short-term goals will form your 2022 goal list!
Let’s further break this down! Identify the goals from your list that you want to work on between:
- January- June
- July – December
For instance, if my 2022 goals are:
GOD:
- Be closer to God
WELLNESS:
- Eat Healthy
LEARNING:
- Read 5 books
P.S Notice how generic these goals are? We need to flesh this out so that they are more actionable! To achieve this, we must make sure our goals are SMART- Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Relevant, and Time bound!
